Napoleon wrasse or locally known as 'Maa hulhun'bu lan'daa' is an endangered reef fish that is protected species in the Maldives. They are characterized by the hump on their head, fleshy lips and can reach over 2 meters in length. An interesting fact about the Napoleon wrasse are protogynous hermaphrodites, which means that they are born female and can change their sex as they age. Maldives s one of the few places in the world, where these fish can regularly be seen during dives.
