Thatch screw pine

Pandanus tectorius

Thatch screw pine is a common plant, mainly found in coastal habitats. The roots of the plant makes it ideal for shoreline restoration. Fruits of this tree are a delicacy in traditional Maldivian diet. The stem and branches were traditionally used in construction and the leaves were used for weaving as well as in traditional medicine. The roots of the plant also have medicinal properties.
