Amaurornis phoenicurus maldivus

The Maldivian waterhen is a subspecies of the White-breasted waterhen, known locally as 'Kan'bili'. It is the national bird of the Maldives. Kan'bili is a medium sized marsh bird found often in Mangrove/wetlands. The adults are dark greyish with white underparts. They have a rusty patch under the tail. The juveniles are similar in appearance with a duller coat.
